Ladies Day

Blackmore Oval Leichhardt was the place to be and the place to be seen!

With 3,500 fans spanning the sidelines, media jockeyed for prime position amongst fans of the game played in heaven. And as far as heaven goes… the Ladies were treated to much more than the promise of the average… last years famous “shirts off brigade” and infamous streakers were no match for the pulling power of waterboy turned starting XV fullback Drew Mitchell and his inside centre and fellow Wallaby Matt Giteau.

The action heated up on and off the field as the Ladies basked in the sunshine of a magic winters afternoon once again surrounded by bouquets of multi coloured gerberas provided by Flowers on Norton, sipping white wine and enjoying chocolate dipped strawberries as the boys filed past for their warm-up – colts, 5th grade, 4th grade, 3rd grade, 2nd grade….and finally…

Preparations had been laid as Kirsten – Artis Hair & Beauty’s representative deftly curled and straightened styles to order as the hens primed themselves to cheer on Drewster the Rooster.

Balmain Rugby Union Clubs’ Ladies Day delivered yet again!

From the launch of the Club’s first grade run on song “Eye of the Tiger” the Epping Boys were left quaking in their boots. As pre-game talk of hard hits directed at our Wallaby recruits faded into an aggressive charge by our forward pack, the score mounted. The cut out pass usually overseen by Robbie Deans was executed to perfection by Gits and Drew was over the line. The black dot a little larger at Blackmore as Matt added his name to the scorer’s ledger.

The crowd rued the fasted 30 mins of suburban rugby to date but was not disappointed by the final score of 40 – 19 towards Balmain. Raffle tickets in hand winners were not only awarded their prizes which included 32” LCD TV’s, Acer Laptops and two carpenters for two days supplied by New Century Renovations – the 29 luckiest in the crowd were warmly greeted by Drew and Matt with a handshake, a photo and even a little peck for the hens.

A wildly successful Ladies Day for the Wolves…the legend only gets better…
